Photography Word Wednesday

by Ken Worley

This week’s photography word is:

Prime Lens – a lens with a fixed focal length. Which means only one angle of view, or no zoom function. So you have to zoom with you feet, this means if you want the subject to by larger in the frame then you have to walk closer to them. The photographs below is of a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 prime lens.

Prime lenses tend to cost a little less than there zoom lens counter part because there are fewer lens elements in the manufacturing of prime lenses. Prime lenses also come with a larger aperture than zoom lenses.

This week’s motivation photograph is of our state bird the Brown Thrasher.

BrownThrasher

I enjoy how many birds we have around our home. It can be a real challenge to photograph them at times, but it can also be good practice if you are thinking about being a wildlife photographer. You have to learn about the habits of the animal you are photographing and be very patience. For those of you that are interested it wildlife photography, I suggest you start in your backyard. So go out there and shoot some local animals, with your camera of course.

Casey

Casey is another one of my Dominican Republic mission trip”family group” members. It was great getting to know the members in my group and seeing them open up as we went through training before the trip. But to see them become closer to each other and to God while in the Dominican Republic was amazing.

Photography Word Wednesday

Today’s photography word is:

CMYK – is a subtractive color mode used in color printing. The name comes from the ink colors use in the process, cyan, magenta, yellow and key (black). The key is the part of printing that enhances the details in the image. The other three colors are aligned to the key or key plate.

I know this is a little geeky but just think of it a subtracting brightness (white) to create the image.

by Ken Worley

This week’s motivation comes from the fact that we are in a national adoption magazine, Lindsey is on the cover, Jamie wrote the article and I made the cover photograph.

If you want to read my thoughts on adopting please read my post “Man’s View of Adopting” from about two years ago.
