What we do when it’s raining outside and we don’t feel like getting wet to make a photograph? That’s when we transform our living room into a photography studio.
With a little inspiration from a few 1940’s images, we decided to play with lighting to achieve the same glamorous style from that time period.
1940’s photographs use at least three lights; a main light, a fill light and a hair light. We only used two lights; a hot-shoe flash with a 40 degree grid as the main light and an unmodified hot-shoe as a rim light. This is how the images came out.
There is some what of an advantage when it comes to making a great portrait in our house. I have a beautiful wife that is willing to redo her hair and makeup to be the model for some of the little lighting projects we want to do.
