The villages we were visiting do not have indoor plumbing. We used an outhouse at the church where we were having Vacation Bible School all week, that was a new experience for many of the teenagers on the trip. After VBS we would stay and play with the kids in the village. While hanging out I noticed this little boy enjoying his afternoon bath behind his house. If you look close you’ll see a chicken on one side and a couple of dogs on the other.

Many times throughout the week we saw the motorcycles taxis carrying people and cargo. Theses boys could be future taxi drivers.

The taxis in the Dominican Republic are not like the ones here in the States, most of them are motorcycles. They get around quick and go places that cars can’t, they’re a great way to travel if they don’t scare you to death in the process. I’m not sure but I think who ever get there front tire out first at the intersection has the right away and the lines in the road appear to be just for looks. The buses we were on drove down the middle of the road most of the time. It makes for some very scary trips out to the mission sites.

We got the chance to try fresh sugarcane while at one of the villages. Here’s a photograph of our machete wielding translator preparing a piece of sugarcane for us. And I must add that the sugarcane was very tasty.

Day two in the Dominican Republic we started our day painting a church. While having lunch onsite I noticed this boy practicing with his slingshot. I really wanted to shoot the slingshot with him but shortly after this photo we had to leave to our next adventure of the day.

Also while painting the church my family group decided to paint me.

Our first full day in the Dominican Republic we visited a village that we would return to at least four time throughout the week. The kids in the village loved playing with cameras. This little guy even took a picture of the back of my camera after I made this photography, I love his enthusiasm!

Our first night of worship in the Dominican Republic. I’m thankful that John McCullough was with us to lead our praise and worship time. I can’t think of a better why to start a mission trip!

Tomorrow I will be traveling to the Dominican Republic on a mission trip with our church and because of the lack of internet access, I will not be blogging a photo a day for Project 366 next week. I’ll still be making photos everyday but they will not make it on my blog until I get back. have a great week everyone.

Still on the “Just for Fun” theme. I saw this Challenger and though how much fun it would be to drive on a raceway. Hey, my uncle has a Challenger, maybe I should give him a call. Well I got go now!
