Motivation Monday

by Ken Worley

Today’s image is from church yesterday.

BrettWorship

With our worship leader on choir tour in Las Vegas, I was wondering who was going to lead worship this week. When we got to church, we noticed the very talented Brett Younker leading worship. We sang one of my favorite song “Like A Lion” written by a fellow adoptive father Daniel Bashta, that we had the pleasure of meeting at last years Bethany Christian Services adoption celebration banquet.

Motivated through worshiping God this week.

Antique Mamiya

by Ken Worley

I’m not the type that collects antiques, but I’m a sucker for old cameras. We don’t have a large collection of antiques camera but there is one, this old Mamiya, that is very special to our family. It is also the header on my blog, but I’m sure you noticed that.

Jamie’s grandfather bought this camera while he was in Japan during World War Two. He know that we were photographer and told us about the camera and said that if knew where it was he would give it to us. I didn’t think much about the conversation after that day. Well after Jamie’s grandfather passed away her mom found the camera in a box and brought it to us. Now it has a very special place in our small collection of cameras.

Today is a special motivation Monday because it is Memorial Day.

Day 234: Memorial Day

The photograph was made last year at the Memorial Day service held in the Marietta National Cemetery. Please take a moment today to remember those who gave everything for the freedom that we enjoy everyday.

Motivation Monday

Today Motivation is from a wedding we photographed earlier this year.

lovingcouple

I think it’s important for the couple to enjoy a few minutes alone as husband and wife before walking into the reception. We’ll gladly help them out with that alone time by setting aside time for photographs of just the two of them between the ceremony and the reception. The above photo was made while they were walk around the gazebo outside the venue. And don’t worry I was not playing paparazzi photographer during their alone time. 🙂

This is an image I was able to make while at the Georgia Professional Photographers Association Spring Convention.

KristinaBWeddingDress

Tomas and Mario Munoz was one of the presenters at this years convention. After they gave a short presentation it was time to walk around the hotel and see how they photographed brides on their wedding day. What you can’t see is just outside this scene, there is at least 35 photographers gathered around the small hotel lobby watching, shooting over each other shoulders, and taking notes. It was a blast getting to meet, and hangout with other local area photographers. We were all there for the same reason, to improve our skills to better serve our clients.

Photography Word Wednesday

by Ken Worley

This week’s photography term is:

Lens Speed – refers to the maximum aperture of a lens. A wider aperture allows more light in, so a faster shutter speed can be used for a proper exposure. A lens which allows for a larger aperture (smaller f-number) is often called fast glass.

Friend Friday

by Ken Worley

Meet Bonnie,

Bonnie

Bonnie is another member of my “family group” from the Dominican Republic mission trip. She is a soccer player and was a little disappointed when she found out that soccer was not as popular in the Dominican Republic as is was in Mexico, where they went last year on the spring break mission trip. Bonnie as well as all my family group members really connected with the each other and the Dominicans we worked with on the trip. Oh yea, and Bonnie did get to use her soccer skills during a volleyball game when she used her foot to return the ball.

Thank you Bonnie for being this week’s Friday friend.

Photography Word Wednesday

by Ken Worley

This week’s photography word is:

Prime Lens – a lens with a fixed focal length. Which means only one angle of view, or no zoom function. So you have to zoom with you feet, this means if you want the subject to by larger in the frame then you have to walk closer to them. The photographs below is of a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 prime lens.

Nikkor 50mm

Prime lenses tend to cost a little less than there zoom lens counter part because there are fewer lens elements in the manufacturing of prime lenses. Prime lenses also come with a larger aperture than zoom lenses.

This week’s motivation photograph is of our state bird the Brown Thrasher.

BrownThrasher

I enjoy how many birds we have around our home. It can be a real challenge to photograph them at times, but it can also be good practice if you are thinking about being a wildlife photographer. You have to learn about the habits of the animal you are photographing and be very patience. For those of you that are interested it wildlife photography, I suggest you start in your backyard. So go out there and shoot some local animals, with your camera of course.
