Friend Friday

by Ken Worley

Meet Casey,

Casey

Casey is another one of my Dominican Republic mission trip”family group” members. It was great getting to know the members in my group and seeing them open up as we went through training before the trip. But to see them become closer to each other and to God while in the Dominican Republic was amazing.

Today’s photography word is:

CMYK – is a subtractive color mode used in color printing. The name comes from the ink colors use in the process, cyan, magenta, yellow and key (black). The key is the part of printing that enhances the details in the image. The other three colors are aligned to the key or key plate.

I know this is a little geeky but just think of it a subtracting brightness (white) to create the image.

Motivation Monday

by Ken Worley

This week’s motivation comes from the fact that we are in a national adoption magazine, Lindsey is on the cover, Jamie wrote the article and I made the cover photograph.

LifeLineMag

If you want to read my thoughts on adopting please read my post “Man’s View of Adopting” from about two years ago.

Meet Caitlin.

Caitlin

Another on of my “family group” member from the Dominican Republic mission trip. Caitlin was the quiet on of the bunch, at least until we got to the VBS site and she was able to play with the children. I could tell that working with the kids was her favorite part of the mission trip. I can’t wait to what God has planned for her.

Thank Caitlin for being one of my Friday friends and part of my family group.

Today’s photography word is:

RGB – is a color mode that adds varying amounts of red, green and blue colors to produce the color in an image, so it is know as an additive color mode. When all the colors are added at once it creates white. Common RGB output devices are TVs, computer monitors, LCDs, and cell phones. Printers start with white paper so it is not a RGB device, it uses a subtractive color mode (typically CMYK).

Motivation Monday

by Ken Worley

Today’s motivation photograph was made while I was on a mission trip in the Dominican Republic. The light on the tree came from building were we held our daily worship service.

DR2011-9

Try something different, like night photography with a slow shutter speed.

Meet Alex

Alex

Alex is another one of my “family group” members from the Dominican Republic mission trip. Baseball is the most popular sport in the Dominican Republic. Alex is a baseball player, so the sport ministry part of the mission trip was a great fit for him. But I think playing with the kids at Vacation Bible School in a small village under a huge mango tree had largest affect on him. God is awesome!

Thanks Alex for being this Friday’s Friend.

This week’s photography word is:

JPEG – Joint Photographic Experts Group is the most commonly used image format. It is universally compatible with internet browsers, viewers, and image editing software. JPEG allows images to be compressed by 10 to 20 percent with very little loss of image quality.

On a side note, when photographing with a DSLR camera the images viewed on the camera’s LCD is a JPEG image, even if shooting in RAW.

Meet Bailey

Bailey

Not only is Bailey a member of my “family group” for the Dominican Republic mission trip, she is also a student leader on the trip. So she has a few extra jobs to do while on the trip and one of them is to help me keep the other members of my group focused, this can be a difficult task because we are all easily distracted.

This week’s photography word is:

TIFF – Tagged Image File Format is a universal image format that is compatible with most imaging programs. TIFF can be compressed without the lose of information; combine the lossless compression with the multi-layer CYMK (look for a description of CYMK on a later post) support and it make TIFF the popular choice for many printing and publishing companies.
